Recent Photo Shoots – Boudoir Photography Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Townsville

Over the last few weeks I have had many clients travel from both the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast to shoot in my Brisbane studio.  I love living in Brissie and having two wonderful places so close by.  And I’m appreciative of my clients taking the time to travel to me.

I am flying to Townsville tomorrow for a busy weekend of shooting.  If you have missed out on a spot, I will be back in Townsville photographing on 22 and 23 July, so get in touch if you would like to reserve a spot for my next trip.

April in my Brisbane studio is also a busy month, unless something suddenly becomes available, I am now booked out for shoots until May.

Here are a few photos from some recent photo shoots.  I loved photographing these three women, all so beautiful and unique!

Tips on choosing your boudoir photographer

You are looking for a boudoir photographer and there are so many to choose from – how to choose? Here are some tips to help you.

Look for a specialist

Go to a photographer’s website and you will often be amazed by all the different styles of photography they can do – not only do they shoot weddings, families and newborns but they also do boudoir photos.  Good on them – but perhaps they aren’t the right choice for your boudoir photo shoot.   A boudoir specialist does this style of photography day in and day out.  They will know how to guide you in choosing the correct outfits and be able to confidently direct you throughout the shoot.  They know the most flattering camera angles and poses to ensure you look your best.  Ideally choose a photographer who specialises in boudoir photography.

Look for a consistent style

I can’t stress the importance of choosing a photographer with a consistent style.  There should be a recognisable style running through the photographer’s work that you choose.  You should be able to see their work anywhere on the internet and be able to tell it is their work without even seeing their name on the copyright.  Some photographers’ work looks so completely different to their other photos, it looks like it could be taken by a different photographer.  This means that you have no guarantee what your images will look like.  By choosing a photographer with a consistent style you can expect that you will receive images of a similar quality to those you have seen online.

 Retouching

The shoot is only one half of the photographer’s job, the second half is the retouching – so ensure you are happy with the photographer’s retouching style.  I have seen some amazing work by photographers, but their retouching skills let them down.  Some photographers offer too little retouching – and personally I believe cellulite, stretch marks, goosebumps etc do not belong in your boudoir photos.  Other photographers offer too much, and their photos look like you are a Barbie who has no resemblance to reality.  Ideally you will find someone who strikes a balance between the two.  You want to look natural, but also look your best.

Check on their availability and turn-around times, and make sure they can meet your deadlines

Some photographers book shoots far in advance, and some photographers have very long turn-around times on providing your images.  I once had my family photos taken and didn’t see the gallery of proofs until 4 weeks after the shoot and it took another 4 weeks to receive my retouched images.  So make sure to find out these details, especially if you are doing the shoot for a special occasion (such as birthday, wedding etc) or if you need the photos urgently for work purposes.  It is really important that your photographer can cater for you and book your shoot in and provide your products within the time required.Boudoir Photographer

I hope these tips helped you in your search to choose your boudoir photographer.

Anonymous boudoir photography

Due to the style of photography I offer, many of my clients choose to keep their images private. However, kindly they often allow me to use their anonymous photos for my promotional use.

So that is the reason that I am going to be showing some anonymous photos, that is mainly butt shots, in this post!

September studio shoot – Boudoir Photographer Brisbane

This gorgeous lady came into my studio in September for her boudoir shoot.  She was referred to my studio from a previous client, which I love! Most of my clients are referrals, or previous clients doing another shoot, and I am always so grateful that they choose to do their photo shoot with me.

Hair and makeup was done by Helena of Elegant Creations Hair and Makeup Artistry. Her red hair looks so striking in the photos and I love the pink and purple colours mixed in.

She had put a lot of thought into her outfit choices and each of them really suited her personality and body.  The white dressing gown/robe was my absolute favourite.  The lace was just so pretty that I think I now have a robe obsession.

I am also impressed that she brought her silver glittery heels to go with her robe.  Often clients just bring a pair of black heels, but it is really important when bringing a white outfit to remember to also bring your white/nude/silver heels to go with it.

My client was such a delight to shoot and she was always happy and laughing! Here are some photos from her photo shoot.

Brisbane bridal boudoir photography

Bridal boudoir photography is one of my favourite styles to shoot. Bride-to-be’s have been taking the utmost care of themselves for months leading up to their wedding, so they are feeling and looking great!

White lingerie is a must for bridal boudoir. Also feel free to bring your own veil and garter to incorporate into your shoot if you have them handy. However I have purchased a few bridal props specifically for my bridal boudoir shoots – including a veil, garter and ‘bride’ shirt – which you are welcome to use.

Most Brides choose to buy an Album to give to their Groom on the wedding day. It makes such a unique gift that is guaranteed to put a smile on his face! Try to book your shoot in a couple of months before your wedding date so that you have ample time for the delivery of your chosen album.

Here are some recent bridal boudoir photos, taken in my Brisbane studio. I am sooo in love with my chandelier and the classy and elegant touch it gives to my bridal images.

Accepting Yourself Now

I believe a photo shoot is a great way of accepting yourself as you are.  I will never forget a shoot I did a couple of years ago for a gorgeous lady, which emphasised what an impact photography can have on self-esteem.

She had originally booked the shoot for one date, but then postponed it for several weeks. When we finally did the shoot I started photographing her and showed her some photos on the back of my camera, and she said something I will never forget.  She said ‘Oh my god, I look amazing!  I postponed the shoot because I felt horrible about myself and how I look.  I almost postponed again because I just felt like a disgusting cow.  I feel so much better about myself now.  Thank you so much!’

Photography is powerful.

I love this metaphor on accepting yourself.  For me it sums up why comparison is the thief of joy.   It is from the book ‘Love your body love your life’ by Sarah Maria:

The concept of accepting yourself wholeheartedly may be a difficult one to visualise. Consider this metaphor to help you envision it.

Imagine for a moment that you are a budding rose, not quite in full bloom. One day, you look across the garden and see a tulip. “Oh my gosh” you squeal, “I want to be a tulip!” You look longingly across the flowerbeds yearning to be as stunning as the tulip. You begin to look back at yourself with disdain and eventually disgust. “I am just a rose” you whimper. “I have too many petals; I’m not as slim as a tulip.”

Then the idea occurs to you: what if I could become a tulip? “If I was a tulip, I would be beautiful. All the flowers would want to spend time with me, and I would be a huge success”. So you try to fashion yourself into a tulip. You pluck and dye your petals, you fertilise, and you change your root system, only to find after endless effort and force, you are still a rose. Only now you are exhausted, overwhelmed, and still dissatisfied with the fact that you are a rose.

It is only when you accept that you are a rose that your true beauty begins to emerge. If you intend to be a tulip, whether this is fully conscious or not you will be denying the fact that you are a rose. Your intentions will be thwarted because you are acting at odds with the universe and the very energy of intention that you want to connect with.

You can guess the moral of this story: accept your rose-ness. Accept whatever type of rose you are, whatever changes you have made or not made; it doesn’t matter. Reclaim any rejected parts of yourself. Then you can set your intention to become the most beautiful, radiant, generous and glorious rose you can be.

Brisbane best boudoir photos

I was pondering the other day about how my photography style has changed over the years.  When I first started my business, glamour photography was a male dominated area and I was the only female photographer in Brisbane doing it.   It was back in the day when Ralph and FHM mens magazines were still around (does anyone remember those?) and I was very influenced by that style of glamour photography.

Now my style has evolved and is definitely more boudoir photography – I shoot in a more natural way and my aim is to create classy and elegant images for my clients.

Thank you so much to this lovely lady for letting me share some of her photos, taken recently in my Brisbane boudoir studio.  It was such a pleasure to photograph her!
