Dark and moody photos – Brisbane boudoir photographers

Having been in my Brisbane boudoir studio for a couple of years now, I enjoy finding different ways to take photos in my studio space. My studio tends to have quite light furnishings which lends itself to light and bright images, but I also like to mix it up and love playing with light and shadow. I had so much creating these dark and moody photos of some recent clients.

For variety, I will be gradually adding different props and furnishings to my studio.  My aim is always to create something unique for each client, while retaining an obvious style to my boudoir photography.

Thanks to these clients for allowing me to share some of their anonymous photos.

Tips on choosing your boudoir photographer

You are looking for a boudoir photographer and there are so many to choose from – how to choose? Here are some tips to help you.

Look for a specialist

Go to a photographer’s website and you will often be amazed by all the different styles of photography they can do – not only do they shoot weddings, families and newborns but they also do boudoir photos.  Good on them – but perhaps they aren’t the right choice for your boudoir photo shoot.   A boudoir specialist does this style of photography day in and day out.  They will know how to guide you in choosing the correct outfits and be able to confidently direct you throughout the shoot.  They know the most flattering camera angles and poses to ensure you look your best.  Ideally choose a photographer who specialises in boudoir photography.

Look for a consistent style

I can’t stress the importance of choosing a photographer with a consistent style.  There should be a recognisable style running through the photographer’s work that you choose.  You should be able to see their work anywhere on the internet and be able to tell it is their work without even seeing their name on the copyright.  Some photographers’ work looks so completely different to their other photos, it looks like it could be taken by a different photographer.  This means that you have no guarantee what your images will look like.  By choosing a photographer with a consistent style you can expect that you will receive images of a similar quality to those you have seen online.

 Retouching

The shoot is only one half of the photographer’s job, the second half is the retouching – so ensure you are happy with the photographer’s retouching style.  I have seen some amazing work by photographers, but their retouching skills let them down.  Some photographers offer too little retouching – and personally I believe cellulite, stretch marks, goosebumps etc do not belong in your boudoir photos.  Other photographers offer too much, and their photos look like you are a Barbie who has no resemblance to reality.  Ideally you will find someone who strikes a balance between the two.  You want to look natural, but also look your best.

Check on their availability and turn-around times, and make sure they can meet your deadlines

Some photographers book shoots far in advance, and some photographers have very long turn-around times on providing your images.  I once had my family photos taken and didn’t see the gallery of proofs until 4 weeks after the shoot and it took another 4 weeks to receive my retouched images.  So make sure to find out these details, especially if you are doing the shoot for a special occasion (such as birthday, wedding etc) or if you need the photos urgently for work purposes.  It is really important that your photographer can cater for you and book your shoot in and provide your products within the time required.Boudoir Photographer

July shoot in Brisbane boudoir photography studio

I can’t tell you how much I am in love with my Brisbane boudoir photography studio.  To be honest, when I first moved in just 6 months ago, my studio was dark and gloomy even though it had big windows.  Even though I can shoot with both studio flash and natural light, I love photographing with natural light and I had always envisaged having a light-filled studio.  So I’ve spent every weekend trimming trees that were blocking my window and I now have the most amazing light coming into my studio.  It is now officially my favourite place to shoot! (My second favourite is the hotel room I visit in Townsville – it also has heaps of natural light).

I have done so many gorgeous shoots in the last couple of months in this new light-filled space.  Here is one that I was kindly allowed to share.  This sexy lady was so much fun to shoot. She was a natural in front of the camera and knew how to work it.
